Description
The Northern Mockingbird is a familiar and charismatic presence in gardens, parks, and suburban yards throughout North Texas. Known for its incredible mimicry, it can string together elaborate songs that mimic dozens of other bird species, as well as frogs, squeaky gates, and even car alarms. Mockingbirds are medium-sized and subtly handsome, with a sleek gray body, flashing white wing patches in flight, and expressive behavior that often seems downright theatrical. They’re fiercely territorial-willing to dive-bomb much larger animals if a nest is threatened. Despite their feisty nature, their songs bring a lyrical soundtrack to the garden year-round, especially in spring and early summer.
