White-Winged Dove

Caelwen

White-Winged Dove

Caelwen arrived the way most important things do — without announcement.

She came to the feeder one morning between the departure of Selithra and the arrival of no one in particular, and she ate with a patience that suggested she had been waiting, though not for anything specific. She returned the following day, and the day after that, until Emberwood simply knew her name without having been told it.

Where other white-wings carry titles — warden, guard, brightwing, skyborn — Caelwen carries nothing but herself. She has not sought a seat among the Twin Orders, though she would not be turned away. She does not carry missives or mark the dawn or herald anything in particular. She arrives. She eats. She goes.

Some of the older doves say she reminds them of what the Order was before it had a name for itself — when white-wings simply lived in the light without needing to govern it. Whether that is wisdom or quiet resistance, Caelwen has not said. She rarely speaks, and when she does, it is only softly, in a low cooing that sounds less like a declaration and more like someone reading aloud to themselves.

She is not yet written into any record. But Emberwood does not forget. And so she is already known.
