Northern Cardinal
Sir Flamebeak

Where some cardinals blaze like banners, Sir Flamebeak burns like a lantern-steady, deliberate, and impossible to ignore once noticed. He carries himself with the posture of a knight who has survived enough winters to stop boasting about it.
He is a watcher of borders: hedge lines, fence posts, the thin places where the yard becomes wild again. In Emberwood stories he is the Ember Oathbearer, sworn to keep small creatures safe by making himself the first target.
Sir Flamebeak does not rush. When he moves, it is with purpose. When he calls, it is an announcement: I am here. Predators learn to measure that sound carefully, because it usually means eyes are on them.
If you see a cardinal perched with quiet authority, as if guarding something you cannot name, you’ve found Sir Flamebeak keeping his vow.
