Bird Buddy first labeled him a Mourning Dove-close enough to fool an algorithm at a glance, but not close enough to fool Emberwood for long. In truth, The Imposter is a White-Winged Dove wearing the kind of calm, gray presence that makes mistaken identity easy.

He slips into gatherings without the usual dove ceremony, perching where he shouldn’t, lingering too long, watching too closely-letting everyone assume they already know what he is. Then, when he turns and the light catches the flash of his wings, the story changes.

The Dawnwardens whisper that The Imposter is a test: a living riddle sent to keep the wood sharp. If you can’t tell friend from stranger, you’re not watching well enough.

Or perhaps he is simply a clever dove who has learned that confidence is the best disguise. Either way, when he is near, Emberwood pays more attention-and that alone makes him powerful.
