House Sparrow
Captain Jack

No one remembers appointing him, but everyone agrees the title fits. Captain Jack is a sparrow who treats every birdfeeder like a busy harbor and every morning like a schedule that must be kept.
He is loud in the way a competent commander is loud: not for attention, but for coordination. A sharp chirp to clear a perch. A quick flutter to break a scuffle. A fearless hop toward danger that convinces the rest they can be brave too.
In Emberwood tales, Jack once stood his ground against a shadow-cat twice his size, not by fighting, but by refusing to yield the threshold. The cat left, offended-perhaps confused-while Captain Jack resumed his patrol as if nothing noteworthy had occurred.
If you hear a sudden burst of chatter and see sparrows reorganizing themselves like an efficient crew, you’ve found his domain. The captain is on duty.
