Born beneath the tangled vines of the elderberry hedge, Nettlewick Featherroot is the curmudgeonly uncle no nest dares claim - and the unexpected hero every glade secretly needs.

A House Sparrow by species, but a hermit by nature, Nettlewick makes his home among mossy stones and forgotten flower pots, tending to his collection of shiny things, bits of string, and old secrets. His feathers are scruffy, his gaze piercing, and his commentary always unsolicited.

They say he was once a feathered firebrand - loud, lively, and full of clever schemes. But one too many aerial mix-ups with bluejays (and one truly regrettable sunflower-oil incident) convinced him the world was a quieter place from the sidelines. Now, he grumbles from the shadows, pretends not to care, and still manages to outthink half the glade when trouble comes.

Featherroot claims to know where the rain goes when it falls, which berries ferment the fastest, and how to avoid polite conversation at forest gatherings. And while most birds roll their eyes, they still find their way to his perch when they’re in need of advice… or a properly barbed insult.

Behind the gruff exterior, however, lies a heart as old as the hedge and twice as tangled - loyal, wise, and far keener than he lets on.
